A JAPANESE LATE MEIJI PERIOD-TAISHO, (LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY), THREE-TIER LACQUER RECTANGULAR BOX AND COVER. The cover decorated in gold and silver takamaki-e with probably the poet-priest Saigyo Hoshi, admiring the crescent moon applied in silver high relief, the sides lacquered in gold hiramaki-e with a continuous design of pine, stylised birds, cherry blossoms floating on a stream, within wooden box, 8.2cm x 22.2cm x 15cm
Overall in good order, some minor surface wear and minute chips to edges of tiers, the cover does not sit flush and has warped slightly.
