A RARE CHINESE FAMILLE NOIRE PORCELAIN JUG, 18TH CENTURY. Featuring two Middle Eastern musicians, one dressed in yellow playing a horn, and another dressed in green playing a trumpet. Qianlong period (1736-95). 14cm tall. Ref: A milk jug with the same design can be found in the V&A Museum, Accession no: C.89&A-1963. This design is known as the 'Trumpeter's Service' and shows 18th century interest in the 'mysterious East', may possibly have been by the Dutch designer Cornelis Pronk (1691-1759); porcelain painted in overglaze enamels and gilt; China (Jingdezhen), Qing dynasty, ca. 1740.
In good overall condition with no signs of damage or repairs. Some rubbing to gilt rim to note.
