A 19TH CENTURY JAPANESE LACQUER WRITING BOX (SUZURIBAKO). The exterior of the lid decorated in gold, silver, and iro-e togidashi maki-e and mura-nashiji with a nobleman and courtiers in front of a mansion, two holding cockerels, reserved on a roiro-nuri ground, the interior of the lid with a tasselled open fan, fitted with a removable frame containing a water dropper and an ink-stone, with a modern inkstick, within original box, inscribed on the lid, 25cm x 23cm x 6cm
Some minor chipping around the framed aperture that fits the water dropper, some very minor wear and surface scratching.
