A CARVED WOODEN BRUSH POT WITH 'EUROPEAN FIGURE'. Carved in deep relief with various figures on mountain side with pine trees and unusually a European looking man dressed in a ruff playing chess. To the base an obscured six-character mark covered by two-character mark wax seal reading 'kaiguang' which has the literal translation of 'opening of light'. This is reference to the Buddhabhiseka which is a consecration ceremony or ritual used in both Buddhism and Daoism. 18cm height
